_What is personalization?

1. Design or produce (something) to meet someone’s individual requirements.
2. Make (something) identifiable as belonging to a particular person, especially by marking it with their name or initials. 
3. Personify (something, especially a deity or spirit).

Legos are prefabricated pieces that can come together and create multiple combinations. They are the best example of technology enabling each person's individuality to affect the end result.

In 2011 there was a devastating earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand.  A big part of the inner city, mostly high rise buildings, collapsed. As part of the project to rebuild the center of the city it was decided that people should have a say in how they wanted their city to be. David Sim, of Gehl Architects, had the idea of a program where people had the opportunity to build a model of their ideal city with simple lego blocks. He, however, recognized the danger of the idea of building a city from a bird's eye view and put an extra task at the "Lego workshop", to build one's self into the city. So people had to put themselves as a figurine in the city and comprehend the importance of human scale. This was a perfect example of how simple modules can come together and create several different scenarios.
